DrSugar is in the house and answering your questions.
Hey DrSugar,
I am a very healthy person. I eat healthy, I am of normal weight, no health conditions and I exercise regularly; however, recently, I've been waking myself up with a snort — I guess like sleep apnea.

You're asking and I'm answering . . .
Hey Fit,
I just started a new job that makes it impossible to exercise in the morning like I used to (I'd have to wake up at 4 am, which is just not going to happen).

OK sleepyhead, let's see how much you know about catching some Zs on the weekend.

We spend over a third of our lives under the covers, but we rarely think about how essential it is to our health and daily functioning. Check out these little tidbits about sleep. Hopefully, they'll encourage you to think more about the amount and quality of your time in bed.
- Adults need 7-8 hours of sleep every night in order to function well during the day.

We all work hard to practice good hygiene but how is your sleep hygiene?
Sleep specialists say that we need to adopt "
sleep hygiene habits" in order to get a good night's sleep — at least seven hours a night. According to the
National Sleep Foundation, they should include:
- Exercising regularly. It's best to complete a workout at least a few hours before bedtime, however.
- Finishing eating at least two to three hours before bedtime.
- Avoiding caffeine and nicotine close to bedtime.
- Maintaining a regular bed and wake time schedule, including weekends.
- Creating a sleep-conducive environment that's dark, quiet, comfortable and cool.
- Sleeping on a comfortable mattress and pillow.
I need to work on maintaining a regular wake up schedule on the weekends — sleeping in is so tempting.
