
I call it the conception conundrum. As women, it seems like we spend much of our adult lives trying NOT to get pregnant, and if we have trouble conceiving when we do decide to start a family, it feels like an evil cosmic joke. Getting pregnant when you finally decide you are ready to become a mom can be more complicated than just forgoing the birth control.

world’s oldest new mother told a British Sunday newspaper she lied to a U.S. fertility clinic to get treatment.
Carmela Bousada said she was 55, which is the clinic’s cut off age for treating single women.

Could the trans fat ban lead to a baby boom?
Recent research from the Harvard School of Public Health shows that women trying to get pregnant should avoid eating trans fats:
...trans fats can interfere with the activity of a cell receptor involved in inflammation, glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity, Chavarro and his team note in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Drugs that activate the receptor have been shown to improve fertility in women with a condition known as polycystic ovary syndrome.

Basically, you chart your menstrual cycle, so you know when you're ovulating.
