Speak Up: What Would You Eat to Gain the Weight?

Recently a few of the Sugar girls and myself had a conversation about if we had to gain ten pounds, what foods we would eat to gain it. Talks of donuts (FabSugar), french fries (DearSugar), and beer (PartySugar) filled the air and it got me to thinking about you, the FitSugar readers. Since we are always talking about what to eat to keep the weight off, let's switch it up a bit for fun. What would you guys eat to put it on?

Speak up and share your thoughts in the comments section below.

For me it would be baked goods (cake, cookies), mashed potatoes, and cheese.

I've eaten to deliberately gain weight. I ate healthy fatty foods like nuts, and used full-fat (canola-based) salad dressing instead of light dressing. Also, I reduced my work-outs a little, too.

I would eat ice cream every single night b4 bed - chocolate chip mint of course. Pad Thai noodles with shrimp for dinner every other day, burgers and fries when Im not eating Pad Thai OH and a Mcdonalds McGriddles breakfast sandwich for breasfast every morning. (coca cola as my beverage, of course)

Whew, I think I'd gain the 10 lbs in one day if I ate all as a three course meal.

I'd eat ice cream! That and lasagna...I think I could gain weight pretty quickly eating those things. I'm actually trying to gain weight right now and honestly, I'm not eating those things. I'm eating nuts, full-fat salad dressings, and more cheese. I know, it's not as fun as eating the ice cream, but it's putting the weight on slowly and I know it's probably healthier than just eating a bunch of crap.

I actually had to gain weight in advance of having jaw surgery. Although weight gain over time has unfortunately come fairly easily, gaining 10 pounds in 2 months was oddly difficult. I ate a bunch of candy and junk food. The best thing was ice cream cake. You can gain a lot of weight by just eating a whole ice cream cake.

Pizza (sbarro meat lovers for me!), french fries, Kettle Chips Salt and Black Pepper flavor dipped in greek yogurt, tons of hummus and pita, bread sticks (that fat warm ones that you dip in marina), donuts, cupcakes, cake!

Oh god, I'm so glad I'm not on my period right now or I'd be running to the store.

What to eat? Hmmm...I would say a large cut of meat (flank steak!), a large serving of rice or pasta (alfredo!) and veggies with mozorella on top. Every dinner meal. I would eat an omlette and hashbrowns with toast every day for breakfast. I would get a HUGE smoothie from Jamba and a bagel with tuna salad for lunch. Well rounded, larger portions of food.

Dang! This made me HUNGRY. I wish I had to gain weight. As it is I'm down 50 and still have 60 to go! BOO. Sad

I need tips on gaining weight healthily besides stuffing my face silly with junk food and ice cream. Right now I'm standing at 34kg and I'm 5 ft 3. I wanna put on at least 6 more kg. Any tips?

cutupangels - you need carbohydrates, not ice cream. If you eat fatty foods then that doesn't necessarily mean they will make you fat for certain!

You need proteins and complex carbohydrates in your body if you want to gain weight.

I actually had to gain over fifteen pounds to get to a healthy weight before...I did it eating healthily, because DUH, the goal was to get HEALTHY. I ate 6 mini-meals of healthy stuff a day.

I drank those Bolthouse Farms mocha protein drink thingies...and I added a sweet potato to my supper of grilled chicken, brown rice, and vegetables or whatever, because I love 'em to fricken death.

Hmm.. all these suggestions sound delicious but are not very vegan! So, as a vegan, if health were NO option, I would drink beer and eat chips and fries all day long. Fries with vinegar and mustard..oh, and all kinds of fried vegetables. But really, just talking about it makes me kind of sick, so I guess I've trained myself well!

I'm currently in this situation, except it is no longer 10 pounds. Now it's more like five.

This seems like a fun idea until you actually have to deal with it. It sucks. Try gaining weight in a society that's obsessed with losing. You think it'd be fun to eat a huge, fatty, delicious meal three times a day until you have to do it, and notice the way people look at you and the reputation you get. You think it'd be nice to not workout so much until you simply can't, and have to watch everyone else running off to the gym while you shove another spoonful of peanut butter down your throat...

Ok, done ranting. I've simply eaten more. I didn't used to eat cheese or a lot of meat, and now I do. Instead of three decent-sized meals, I eat five decent-sized meals. More carbs and fat, basically.

Stick with healthy foods unless you want to feel blah as you gain weight. Increase your portion sizes, maybe use dinner plates instead of luncheon plates and/or have seconds. Eat lots of pasta, potatoes, and breads. Don't shy away from fatty foods (like meat, eggs, avocados, cheese, light oils) but avoid trans fats like always. Have dessert every day. Snack between meals. If you usually drink water, substitute juice.

If you normally do a lot of cardio, ease off on that and do weight training instead.

Remember that 1 pound = 3500 Calories, so if you want to gain 1 pound a week, you need to eat an extra 500 Calories a day. That's actually not very much - about the same as a large serving of fries.

All of the chocolate bon bons I could handle

Spoons n' spoons of peanut butter

Chocolate cake batter by the spoon

Bread full of melted cheddar cheese on top

Cream cheese on top of EVERYTHING

For breakfast a cream cheese bagel with a plate of fried bacon, along with a vanilla milkshake full of chocolate sauce.

For lunch, a nice big fried steak with beans and rice on the side, along with french fies full of ketchup.

For a snack always eat peanut butter cookies with chocolate chips and a tall glass of full cream milk.

Dinner would be Lasagna full of mozzarella, Feta, Cheddar and oily marinara sauce with bacon bits and ground beef.

My bed time snack would be oatmeal made with condensed milk full of nuts and raisins.

...and as my drink through out the day, a nice cold glass of coke.

    HEAVEN

Well if I needed to gain weight I would go about it in a healthy way. I'd rather gain it in a healthy way than just saturated fat and such.

On a non healthy level just for fun, I would probably eat french fries, fried dough, lots of Reeses, ice cream and so much more. Smiling

If I wanted to gain weight, I'd eat more carbs...I love bread products and pasta...I also love cheese, so I'd eat plenty of that! I don't have a big sweet-tooth, but I love cheesecake and key lime pie, so I would also indulge in those treats Smiling

Eat more healthy fat like olive oil and avocado.

I would also have high fat ice cream and cheesecake. anything that is high fat and calorie dense and maybe has some nutrients in it like peanut butter and walnuts and macadamia nuts.

I would gain the weight like sumo wrestlers do, and not screw with my insulin levels with candy and stuff like that.

The show "science of obesity " shows that eating good high calorie food packs on the pounds subcutaneously instead of intraabdominally which is bad for your organs.
