Madonna is One B*tchin' Biker Babe

Madonna, I'm sure, has at least one driver and quite a few cars. So why is it, do you think, that Madge has been spotted riding her bike to and from her London gym? It's probably because she's caught on to something that many of us cannot quite grasp yet. The fine art of multi tasking in fitness.

You have to get to the gym somehow, right? Why not bike? Biking to (and from) the gym is one fabulous way to multi task while burning lots of calories. Here's why: A 130 pound woman can burn around 130 calories for 20 minutes of biking moderately. So if you bike to and from the gym, you may be able to add 260 additional burned calories to the amount you already racked up while at the gym for an hour. This could bring your grand total of calories burned way up for the day. Not to mention that it's better for the environment to ride your bike a few miles rather than taking your car.

What's more? You'll already be warmed up by the time you get to the gym. So if you have a bike and a gym that is close enough you can bike to it every now and again, I highly suggest you try it out.

I thought of this many times myself but either the traffic is too intimidating or I have been too lazy for a bike lock.

I love her hat!!! I don't know why, but I am scared to death to ride a bicycle in nyc streets. Too many fast drivers for me.

I can't wait to actually live in a city that has been well-planned enough to make side walks and bike paths. There have been so many times that I would love to get on a bike and go somewhere, but from my house I'd have to battle two very busy highways with crazy drivers and NO shoulder, NO sidewalk, NO bike path. It's a shame.

That being said - when I move to Boulder or somewhere more biker-friendly, I will definitely be taking cues from Madonna.

Mountain bikes are great for street riding short distance. I ride mine to the gym all the time. I can easily jump curbs. Love the breeze after pumping it up.

I agree about moving somewhere that's bike friendly. If I rode a bike to the gym, I'd cross over a highway and a six lane avenue -- all with no bike lane, pointing to the reason why I sold my bike for quick cash when I moved here. Can't wait to move!

I walk to my morning pilates classes. I notch a fast 1.5 mile trot to the studio (or sprint if I'm running late) and another 1.5 mi jaunt back, after picking up some water and/or snack. Once I figured out the time it would take me to arrive on time, I made that part of my schedule. It sounds hard and my classmates are amazed but to me, the entire process is quite easy. I put my music on and I'm out the door. I'm now so well trained that I get to class about 5 minutes early to chill, stretch and breathe. I'm warmed up and the pilates stretches me out, then I'm feeling good and headed back home. The best part is that my exercise is done for that day and I completely enjoyed it.

I actually am fortunate to live in a country where drivers are civilized and we have lots of bike paths. I do cycle to the gym as much as I can, when the weather is too bad, I run. Nice to burn some extra cals!

I like how she stays fit and wears such cool outfits to gym! Woot! I cant really cycle in my country to the gym though. the roads are too crowded. Lucky though I can walk for a good 10 min to the nearby track, and from there, I work out for at least an hour, and then i walk home again.

I like her. She's one of the 'normal' celeberties: naughty on stage, proper in life. Most pop stars these days are the other way around...
