Gabby Reece to Readers: Grow Up!

Gabrielle Reece, is not unlike yours truly, and has been coaching us all online to a healthier, happier you. It seems that Ms. Gabby has hit the end of her rope with her readers...

In one of her latest posts on Yahoo.com, she lays it on the line:

"...Is it fun? Grow up. What single thing in life worth having is easy? I think it's so strange because for the most part, we're taught that if we just work hard, we can make anything happen. Yet, we can't seem to buy into that when it comes to our own health and bodies.

Get a friend right now and make a plan. Start three days a week walking or biking. Do something active three days a week for 30 minutes. Get your heart rate up. Once you get going, start taking a class together once a week. Split the fees on a trainer once a month. Mix it up and try to get creative.

Get away from the TV and computer and use that time for YOU. Here, I'll make it easy -- treat it like work. Don't flake, just show up and get it done. I know the food is the most challenging part, but it's key in this equation.

Watch your portions, don't skip meals, monitor snacking, drink only water, eat real food, don't microwave stuff, avoid the drive-thru, and if you're questioning whether or not something is "OK to eat," chances are you already know the answer. When I say it doesn't come easy, that doesn't mean it has to be total hell either. Get involved with your health and fitness life, and you'll begin to see that there are a lot of ways to cheat, have fun, and still be successful.

Last nagging point, find ways to not let the stress get to you, and sleep, babies. Let's go, people. This is it. You can do it."

While it does seem a little harsh at first, I have to say that I completely agree with her here. Time and time again, we so called fatbloggers get tons of emails requesting the magic bullet of exercise and weight loss. That is like winning the lottery folks, and for most of us, it's just not going to happen. Put in the time and effort and you will get results.

I like the self-responsibility aspect but it doesn't have to sound like another job. Life is stressful enough. Being healthy is a way to make your life more enjoyable, not a second job. Exercise can be integrated into your daily life or as a leisure activity--doesn't have to be trainer, schedule, work, work, work. Same with healthy eating--it makes you feel better is much more tempting to your taste buds that processed food, a way to be more social, etc. I realize you have to be dedicated to your health but it's much easier when it's fun. She makes it sounds like such a drag...

I agree vsakakeeny but I think the point she was trying to make was for people to stop making excuses and living in denial. I'm sure plenty of people know that you need to get off your butt and excercise (and eat well) in order to get into shape or stay fit. But so many people continue to make excuses or try to find an easier way out - and I think she was just saying that it's time to stop all of that. You can put in the time and have fun as well. Great post

What she says is the complete truth....we deserve more than we are giving ourselves. I hate it when people talk about diet pills, and "magic" ways to get their weight off. It takes time and if it comes off quickly then it will come back on. What we want in life does not come easy, everything takes time...I mean a university degree (which I'm getting in June) takes 4 years, that was not easy, I had to work hard for that. Getting the weight off that I gained in first year didn't happen over night. Being able to run a half marathon cannot happen in just a few weeks, EVERYTHING we want takes time to be able to achieve it!
    I'll stop rambling...heehee

I like the overall gist. One nit, IT IS FUN! but not always, and not at first.

Another nit, what's wrong with the Microwave!?! Any time I cook, I try to cook enough for Heidi and me X 3, so we can eat without have to cook for two more meals. I use the Microwave to reheat a plate full of good healthy stuff. There's nothing wrong with that...

I thought that about the microwave, too! I think she meant more like stay away from convenience foods?

I dunno...she knows what she's talking about, though!
