How Does Your Time of the Month Affect Your Workouts?

I'm pretty lucky in the fact that when it's "that time of the month," my symptoms are fairly mild. I feel a little crampy, bloated, and tired, but it doesn't interfere with my life too much. Sticking to my regular exercise routine usually relieves any discomfort I have, and it always lifts my mood. I do wear a more supportive sports bra, since bouncing around and soreness don't mix. That's just me though. I know some women are so uncomfortable when Aunt Ruby comes calling, slipping on spandex and sneakers is the last thing on their mind. So what about you . . .

I do have symptoms and exercise doesn't make me feel better, but anyways I used to walk on the treadmill but this month I couldn't even walk.

My period lasts for 2-3 days max so it's really no big deal for me. My stomach bloats but that's about it. I keep exercising as regular and try hard to stay away from sweets.

The eight days of migraines and fatigue used to make me want to do nothing but lie in bed with my head under the pillows. I take bc pills continuously (no break for that pesky period), so it's not a problem now.

My period is my workout buster. I don't workout because I want to have a "smooth flow" of my period, no major physical activity for me.

Exercise seems to help my cramps, when I'm up to it.

Even though, I have uncomfortable symptoms; most of the time I will continue my workouts as planned. I normally feel a little better. Also, a midol helps every once in a while.

I only get my period four times a year thanks to seasonale (hugs seasonale) and it also makes it more bearable so I can actually exercise too. Though I take it a little easier and there is an ick factor with the sweating...

I always work out during my periods. Particularly on the first day when the cramps are the worst. I find the workout really alleviates the pain and helps get my mind off it.

I don't feel like exercising, but I do anyway. It usually helps with the cramps and fatigue, and it definitely boosts my cranky menstrual mood!

I get period related anemia, so working out only makes me dizzy and barfy feeling. I take a week off from the gym, but use my little free weights to atleast tone my arms while I'm vegging out feeling cranky.

It's always different. Sometimes I feel no symptoms at all and other times I feel as though I am a dying beached whale. I respond according to how I'm feeling.

I feel really awful the first two days, bloated, heavy, slow, lots of cramps. But working out usually helps, when I force myself to do it.

My symptoms really range too. Sometimes, it's just light cramps and the exercise makes it feel better. Sometimes it's migraines and fatigue so bad it just isn't worth it!

And I have learned to never work out when I truly don't feel like it, or I end up hating it and lapsing! Lately I've eliminated weight lifting, and in the meantime I am just doing cardio until I feel like getting back into lifting. I do try to push myself, but I also try to listen to what my body tells me.

I used to get killer PMS that made me have to stay in bed for a whole day or two, but now I barely get symptoms at all. Usually I get a few cramps and working out helps get rid of them.

Initially it's really difficult, but once I force myself out of it, it does help to relieve cramps.

"I do have symptoms, but find that exercise actually makes me feel better."

This is me. Last month, I had a particularly challenging time. It was my first day of my period, and I decided to go jogging anyways. I had some deep cramps, and I jogged partially hunched over. I could not straighten my core!! I was a trooper, and finished my workout anyways. My form was terrible due to menstrual cramps, but I did feel better afterwards.

All I can say is Spin Class is not happening on the first couple days my period and usually not any other exercise. However, sometime I pull through. After the first 3 days, I'm usually ok.
