Class Act: Hooping

I am not talking about hoops as in basketball. Nope, I'm referring to the hula hoop here. Beyoncé does it to stay in shape because it simultaneously tones your abs and glutes and helps get rid of love handles. Just like spinning or kickboxing, you can sign up for Hooping classes (also called HoopDance and HoopClass. It may seem like a joke, but in order to keep a hula hoop spinning in motion, you've really got to sway your hips quickly so it definitely gets your heart rate up. Plus hula hooping for eight minutes can burn up to 110 calories, so even though this seems like all fun, it really is a great workout. Ask your local gym if they offer classes or workshops.

Fit's Tip: Looking for a hoop group in your area to meet fellow hula hoopers and learn some cool tricks? Then check out this directory.

I love hula hooping! I do it a lot for cardio, plus it has really toned up my waistline and bum.

I suck SO bad at hula hooping. This reminds me of the Girls Next Door though. Doesn't Holly love to hula hoop?

Yay! I've been waiting for FitSugar to post about this!

I'm a licensed HoopGirl Workout instructor, and not only is it excercise, it's a wonderful fusion of dance and feel good fitness.

go here to find a licensed HoopGirl teacher in your area:

(I'm the 4th one down, Allison Miller!)

So far, I've lost about 25 pounds, and I feel amazing. Remember not to use the kids Hula Hoops, use a professional hoop with a diameter of about 38-45 inches. The bigger the hoop, the easier it is to keep it up!

The creator of HoopGirl, Christabel Zamor, had a complete body transformation. She is such an inspiration. Here is one of my favorite videos of her:

Sorry it's such a long comment, hoopdance is something I'm really passionate about and something I want to share with as many people as possible!

You gotta have a weighted hoop...there is a girl in my area, Trixie Little, that is teaching hoop classes...So fun, I wish it didn't conflict with everything else I have to do!

Hmm, my last comment didn't show up, that's odd.

Well anyway, I wanted to let everyone know that you can find a licensed HoopGirl workout instructor at: hoopgirl (dot) com and then click on "classes" and "licensed hoopgirl instructors", I'm the 4th one down, Allison Miller!

Hooping has been the most positive and inspiring thing in my life and I've lost about 25 pounds so far in the year that I've been hooping. It's such a great fusion of dance and feel good fitness and I hope anyone who is interested picks up an adult sized professional hoop. Hoops from 38-45 inches are best for beginning hoopers, because contrary to popular belief, the bigger the hoop, the easier it is to keep it up!

    Happy Hooping!

Or you COULD just get a Hawaii chair....lol!

I used to love hula-hooping back when I was a kid. I was pretty good at it, but I haven't done it so long! I'd like to try it again...sounds fun!
